10TH CLASS BIOLOGY MIMOSA

10TH CLASS BIOLOGY MIMOSA

Some plants like Mimosa pudica, show immediate response to touch stimulus. The leaves have pad like swelling at the base.
Here cells contain lot of water and larger intercellular spaces, holds the leaf erect. When leaves are touched an electrical impulse is generated, which make water migrate to other cells. Then pulvilus (pulvini) loses its firmness and leaves become folded. After 20-30 minutes water comeback, pulvi attain firmness and leaves'become erect. This type of nastic movement shown by plant is called Thigmonasty.
