అంతర్జాతీయ మాహిళా దినోత్సవం మార్చి 8 న జరుపుకోవడానికి కారణాలు ఏమిటి..?

   The first International Women’s Day dates back to 28th February 1908 in New York City when 15,000 female textile workers marched in protest of lower pay, long working hours and a lack of voting rights. The following year the first National Women’s Day was observed by the Socialist Party of America. Then the following year after that, at the Socialist international Meeting in Copenhagen, the first global iteration of the event was held on the 19th March.

It wasn’t until 1914 that the date finally settled on the 8th March. The reason being that in 1914 the 8th was on a Sunday and it would be easier for women to attend marches and events on the day. Since then the date has been consistently held on the 8th, allowing a specific time to be fixed in the calendar. It was eventually enshrined as a United Nations Day in 1977, becoming the worldwide event we recognise today.

The annual celebration seeks to focus on the social, political, economic and cultural achievements of women around the world. There are 10 key values that are championed by the event which are justice, dignity, hope, equality, collaboration, tenacity, appreciation, respect, empathy and forgiveness, which all guide the planning of day itself.

In some countries it is also observed as a national holiday. Since the breakup of the Soviet Union, Russia and many of it’s former territories have continued to celebrate IWD as a national holiday. It also observed as a public holiday across many parts of Asia such as Afghanistan, Mongolia and Vietnam as well as in a number of central African countries.

   కిర్గిస్థాన్‌ నుంచి కాంబోడియా వరకు ప్రపంచ దేశాలు మార్చి 8వ తేదీని అంతర్జాతీయ మహిళా దినోత్సవాన్ని జరుపుకుంటున్నాయి.ఈ సందర్భంగా రాజకీయ, సామాజిక, ఆర్థిక, సాంస్కతిక రంగాల్లో మహిళలు సాధించిన విజయాలను దేశ దేశాలు స్మరించుకుంటున్నాయి.ఇంకా ఏయే రంగాల్లో మహిళలు విజయాలను సాధించాలో కార్యచరణకు రూపకల్పన చేసుకుంటున్నాయి. ఇంతటి ప్రాధాన్యత కలిగిన అంతర్జాతీయ మహిళా దినోత్సవం ఎలా పుట్టింది? ఎలా ఎదిగింది ? మార్చి 8వ తేదీనే ఎందుకు ఖరారయింది ? అన్న అంశాలను కూడా ఈ రోజు తెలుసుకోవాల్సి ఉంది.

    అమెరికాలోని న్యూయార్క్‌ పట్టణంలో 1908లో, ఫిబ్రవరి నెలలో 15 వేల మంది మహిళా వస్త్ర వ్యాపారులు చేసిన ఆందోళన ప్రపంచ మహిళా శక్తికి స్ఫూర్తినివ్వగా, 1917, ఫిబ్రవరి 23వ తేదీన రష్యాలో జరిగిన మహిళల ఆందోళన అంతర్జాతీయ మహిళా శక్తిగా అది రూపాంతరం చెందేందుకు దోహదపడింది.మగవారితో సమానంగా వేతనాలు ఇవ్వాలని, పని గంటలను తగ్గించాలని న్యూయార్క్‌లో మహిళా వస్త్ర వ్యాపారులు సమ్మె చేశారు.ఆ సమ్మెకు గుర్తుగా 1909, ఫిబ్రవరి 28వ తేదీన అమెరికా సోషలిస్ట్‌ పార్టీ ఆధ్వర్యంలో తొలిసారి జాతీయ మహిళా దినోత్సవం జరిగింది.

    1910లో ప్రముఖ సోషలిస్ట్‌ క్లారా జెట్‌కిన్స్‌ పిలుపు మేరకు ‘ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ కాన్ఫరెన్స్‌ ఆఫ్‌ వర్కింగ్‌ విమెన్‌’ పేరిట సమావేశం జరిగింది. ఈ సమావేశానికి 17 దేశాల నుంచి దాదాపు 100 మంది మహిళా ప్రతినిధులు హాజరయ్యారు.

ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ కాన్ఫరెన్స్‌ స్ఫూర్తితోనే 1911, మార్చి 19వ తేదీన ఆస్ట్రియా, డెన్మార్క్, జర్మనీ, స్విడ్జర్లాండ్‌లు అంతర్జాతీయ మహిళా దినోత్సవాలు జరుపుకున్నాయి.

   1913–14లో మొదటి ప్రపంచ యుద్ధాన్ని వ్యతిరేకిస్తూ పలు దేశాలు కూడా మహిళా అంతర్జాతీయ దినోత్సవాలను జరుపుకున్నాయి.

రష్యాలో గ్రెగోరియన్‌ క్యాలెండర్‌ ప్రకారం మార్చి 8వ తేదీన అంతర్జాతీయ మహిళా దినోత్సవాన్ని పురస్కరించుకొని తొలి ప్రపంచ యుద్ధానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా మహిళల ప్రదర్శన నిర్వహించింది.

1917లో రష్యాలో అక్టోబర్‌ విప్లవం ప్రారంభానికి అనువైన పరిస్థితులు నెలకొంటున్న రోజుల్లో జూలియన్‌ క్యాలెండర్‌ ప్రకారం ఫిబ్రవరి 23, రష్యా గ్రెగోరియన్‌ క్యాలెండర్‌ ప్రకారం మార్చి 8వ తేదీన ‘ఆహారం–శాంతి’ పేరిట రష్యా మహిళలు భారీ ప్రదర్శన జరిపారు.ఈ ప్రదర్శన నుంచే మహిళలకు కూడా ఓటు హక్కు కావాలనే డిమాండ్‌ ముందుకు రావడంతో అప్పటి రష్యా చక్రవర్తులు దాన్ని అమలు చేశారు.బ్రిటన్‌ కంటే ఓ ఏడాది ముందు, అమెరికా కంటే మూడేళ్ల ముందు రష్యా మహిళలు ఓటు హక్కును సాధించడంతో అక్కడి మహిళా ఉద్యమాన్ని విప్లవాత్మకమైనదిగా చరిత్రకారులు భావించారు

  1975లో తొలి అంతర్జాతీయ మహిళా సంవత్సరాన్ని పాటించిన ఐక్యరాజ్య సమితి ఆ సందర్భంగా మార్చి 8వ తేదీని అంతర్జాతీయ మహిళా దినోత్సవంగా ప్రకటించింది. అప్పటి నుంచి మెజారిటీ దేశాలు మార్చి 8వ తేదీనే మహిళా దినోత్సవంగా పాటిస్తున్నాయి.
